AN ODE TO MASSEY FERGUSON - OUR YOUNG POET TAKES CENTRE STAGE
We are delighted to celebrate Harrison Leslie (10) from Korakonui Primary School as the next young writer featured on The Poets Billboard on Maniapoto Street.
Harrison’s poem, Massey Ferguson - a heartfelt and imaginative ode to a hardworking tractor - will be on display over the summer break, bringing a smile to passers-by and celebrating the rural stories that shape our district.
ŌDC staff invited the billboard’s inaugural poet, Sylvia Beveridge, to review a collection of wonderful poetry submissions from Korakonui School. From these, three standout poems were selected to be showcased over the coming months, with Harrison’s poem proudly taking the first spot.
The Poets Billboard is an ŌDC initiative that celebrates creativity, storytelling and local talent by bringing poetry into our shared places and spaces.
MASSEY FERGUSON
by Harrison Leslie (10)
Korakonui Primary School
I like its grippy tires
Its tread looks like a ladder
I like the inside of the wheels
They are as round as a donut.
I like my Massey Ferguson
It runs on the farm all day
It mows the grass and feeds the cows
No matter how hard the day
It runs and runs
I like its trailer on the back
It's like a toddler chasing its parent.
