Our Council Logo – Te Ōhanga (The Nest)
We’re excited to share our new logo, Te Ōhanga, which means "The Nest". It’s more than just a fresh design. It’s a symbol of how we work with our communities to build a strong, united future for Ōtorohanga District.
In the past, we used the Kiwi as our logo, but there wasn’t a clear brand or style around it. When we started working on our Long Term Plan 2024 - 2034, we introduced a new look and feel under the theme Weaving the Future – Kotahitanga. Kotahitanga meaning unity, and that’s exactly what this new direction is all about.
Te Ōhanga represents a safe and nurturing place where people can grow and thrive. It reflects our goal of working together with our communities to shape the future. The design also includes a stylised ‘Ō’, a nod to our district and to Te Reo Māori.
Since introducing Te Ōhanga, it’s been warmly received by the community, our partners, and our staff. It quickly became clear that having two logos (the Kiwi and the Nest) was causing confusion. People weren’t sure which one to use – and it made it harder for us to show up as one united organisation.
After lots of thought and discussion, Council has decided to move forward with Te Ōhanga as our main logo. It tells our story, reflects our values, and brings everything we do under one strong, meaningful identity. You can find the Council report regarding this decision here.
