MAYORAL DISASTER RELIEF FUND ACTIVATED FOR ŌTOROHANGA DISTRICT

Ōtorohanga District Mayor Rodney Dow has activated the Mayoral Disaster Relief Fund in response to the recent severe weather event that has impacted communities across the district.

The Fund may assist with:

  • Basic household needs and essential personal items (where uninsured or underinsured)
  • Clearing debris from properties
  • Assistance with insurance excess payments
  • Replacement of essential uninsured or underinsured items

The Fund is intended as a last-resort measure, where other sources of assistance such as insurance or government welfare have been exhausted.

Applications must be submitted in writing and will be assessed against the Fund criteria.

The Creative Communities Fund (CCS Fund) provides creative assistance to make our district a vibrant place to live. It is a rolling contestable fund for creative projects available to craftspeople, artists, musicians, dancers, actors, community groups, non-profits, and organisations.

Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund.

The Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund subsidises rural travel for junior teams and clubs aged between and including 5-18 years. It helps school and club sports teams who require financial assistance with transport costs so that they can participate in local sports competitions.

Supporting indigenous excellence! The purpose of the Ōtorohanga Ora initiative is to increase community wellbeing by establishing a 2-year contestable fund, seeking seasonal events and/or initiatives significant to Māori and the wider community.

Better Off Funding Project Updates

The Ōtorohanga District Council has been allocated $2.6 million from the Government as part of the Better Off Fund (BOF). Four priority projects have been identified and approved: Improving Ōtorohanga College, Kāwhia Seawall Defence, supporting Mauri o Waiwaiā I te Awa o Waipā – Tōkihi and implementing Ōtorohanga Ora as contestable fund.

Sport Waikato Tū Manawa Fund.

Sport Waikato Tū Manawa Fund

The Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa Fund supports play, active recreation, and sport for tamariki and rangatahi. It focuses on those less likely to be active, including disabled youth, Māori, Pacific, rural, and low-income communities. Funding is available year-round and starts with a kōrero instead of a form. It covers project costs like coaching, equipment, venues, and transport, but not ongoing operations.

This is not a council-run fund, it's an external fund.

  • A Searchable, online database
  • Funding for community groups and organisations
  • From e.g. government, councils, service organisations, and statutory, philanthropic, and gaming trusts
  • Over a thousand schemes
  • About 2 new schemes per week
