Today we farewell a cherished and deeply respected member of our Ōtorohanga District Council whānau, Ross McNeil - who moves on to his next chapter.
Ross joined ŌDC in January 2020 to help lead the development of our 2021-31 Long Term Plan. What was initially a short-term role quickly turned into something more permanent, and we’re so grateful it did. In his role as Chief Advisor, Ross led a wide range of significant projects and strategies that have helped shape our district’s future. His steady leadership, thoughtful insight, and talent for uniting people were instrumental during key moments of change and progress.
While his role was often described as “doing whatever the CE needs,” the truth is that Ross helped weave the direction of our organisation during a time of significant transition, including the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and the onset of major sector reforms. Beyond the projects and policies, Ross brought something even more valuable: trust. He became a sounding board for staff and elected members alike, someone whose advice was always thoughtful, balanced, and rooted in a deep understanding of people and place.
Ross, thank you. Thank you for your knowledge, your wisdom, your humour, and your unwavering commitment to making things better, for our organisation and for our community. It’s been a privilege to have you as part of our team. Our district is better for having had you in it, and we wish you all the very best for the next step in your journey.
