The Reg Brett Reserve (off Huiputea Dr) and Jim Barker Memorial Playground in Ōtorohanga will be temporarily closed for repairs from 13 July to the end of August 2026. The damage was caused by the February floods. The repair work will be weather-dependent.
This closure includes the Jim Barker Memorial Playground, skate park and basketball court. A temporary fence will be erected for health and safety purposes while the repairs are carried out. We appreciate that having the playground closed during the school holidays may be frustrating for some families and visitors. We understand it is a much-loved community facility.
The repairs are essential and require the playground to be closed while the work is carried out. We want to complete the repairs as soon as possible so the playground can be reopened for the community to enjoy.
We encourage people to visit our other parks and reserves, including Windsor Park, which has a children's playground. For info on all our parks and reserves, visit otodc.govt.nz/our-district/parks-and-reserves
The public toilets at the Reg Brett Reserve will be temporarily closed during the repairs. There are public toilets at Wahanui Crescent (off Maniapoto Street/SH3), Windsor Park (off Turongo Street or Haerehuka Street) and Alex Telfer Drive (off Kakamutu Road), These facilities are open in winter (April to September) from 8am to 5pm.
