RUBBISH BAG UPDATE AND TEMPORARY CLOSURES (ŌTOROHANGA WASTE TRANSFER STATION & RURAL RECYCLING SITES)

From 1 July, Evolve Ventures Limited will begin delivering Council's new kerbside rubbish collection service with red rubbish bags, and takes over running the Waste Transfer Stations.

RUBBISH BAG COLLECTION DAYS

There will be new collection days for some in Ōtorohanga, depending on location (Wednesday or Thursday). See the Ōtorohanga Kerbside Collection Days Map to see your collection day. Kāwhia and Aotea’s collection day will remain on Monday, except for public holidays when it will be on Wednesday. The Kāwhia Waste Transfer Station will be open on public holiday Mondays.

NEW RED COUNCIL RUBBISH BAGS

Council has changed to red rubbish bags to align with the nationally recognised colour for general rubbish. Red bags are now available from Ōtorohanga District Council reception, and at the Ōtorohanga and Kāwhia Waste Transfer Stations. The red bags will likely become available at local supermarkets.

WHAT ABOU TTHE YELLOW BAGS?

* If you have leftover yellow rubbish bags or your yellow bags have not been picked up: Please contact Enviro NZ via the Enviro NZ website at www.environz.co.nz or call them on 0800 240120. *

The yellow bags were part of Council's previous kerbside collection service. Enviro NZ (were known as EnviroWaste), the former contractor, has advised it will continue collecting yellow bags as part of its own private waste collection service. This private service operates independently of Council and is not part of Council's contract with Evolve Ventures Limited, which applies to the new red Council rubbish bags only. Please note - stores may choose to continue to sell yellow bags, as well as red bags.

RURAL RECYCLING SITE UPGRADES

The recycling drop-off facilities at Arohena School, Korakonui School, Maihiihi School and Ngutunui School will be upgraded and will be closed from 1 - 17 July.

During this time, you can continue to recycle free of charge at the Ōtorohanga Waste Transfer Station, 40 Progress Drive, which is open 10am - 4pm every day except Thursdays. Household batteries can also be dropped off there free of charge.

More info - including recycling details and days of collection - can be found at here.
