Older Persons Housing

The Ōtorohanga District Council manages 22 accommodation units in Ōtorohanga and 6 in Kāwhia, providing affordable accommodation for those who are eligible. 

Council's pensioner housing provides residents with privacy and independence, with the knowledge that they are near people of their own age and have a secure and affordable place of residence.

Older Persons Housing is ideal for those on a low income with few assets. It provides housing at a lower-than-market cost with lower maintenance. 

Applications are assessed against the following criteria:

  • Housing need
  • Health factors
  • Inability to arrange alternative housing
  • Age grouping

Rental Units

The rental units are provided at:

Ōtorohanga

  • $105.00 per week single unit
  • $138.00 per week double unit

Kāwhia

  • $110 per week single unit
  • $136.50 per week double unit

Units may be available now or, depending on the location, you may have to go on a waiting list.
