'Factory Drive' on offer to ODC

Otorohanga District Council may adopt a section of road reserve off Huiputea Drive.
The 960m2 section, which has never been officially named, services entrances to Excelsior Nissan, Ballance Agri-Nutrients and Customtone Kitchens.
At an Otorohanga Community Board meeting last Monday, board members made a recommendation to council that the road be adopted.
If the recommendation goes ahead the council will assume responsibility for maintaining the road, and it will be entered in the road maintenance planning system.
Engineering manager Dave Clibbery said he saw no reason why the council should not take over maintenance of the road.
"This section of road has previously been sealed to a standard acceptable to council and there is no technical reason why this section of road should not be included in the inventory of council maintained roads," he said.
In order to include the road in the inventory a name must firstly be designated, however it will only be used for administrative purposes and will not be displayed.
This also allows businesses situated on the road to retain their current address using Huiputea Drive.
The board will suggest to council that the road be named Factory Drive - opting to keep it simple since it would not be commonly used.
"What is in a name, particularly if it is not going to be shown," said board member Kit Jeffries.
Despite the limited usage of the new name council will still be required to follow a 'special order' process to name the road, which will include giving public notice.
