Williams wins speedway

BY KYLEE BRUCE

Not only did Otorohanga mayor Dale Williams win convincingly in the polls, he also won
convincingly on the track.
williams s was one of a handful of mayors, councillors and invited guests who took part in a saloon. car challenge at Kihikihi Speedway recently.
Included among Williams' opponents were Waipa mayor Alan Livingston, Waipa deputy mayor Peter Lee and councillor Ewan Wilson from Hamilton Citv Council.
Competitors were required to complete eight laps of the speedway track in borrowed saloon cars, with Williams driving a Toyota Starlet.
While he had never raced a car before, Williams said it was not unlike racing his four-wheel motorbike.
"Anything with a motor, I am into it."
Williams won the event convincingly and even had a great time doing it.
"It was a lot of fun."
For his effort, Williams received a prize pack including champagne and a medallion.
He is already eyeing up his competition for next year, with organisers hoping to make the feature an annual event.
The race was a feature of Kihikihi Speedway's 50th anniversary celebrations.
