ODC cracks down on broken glass
The Otorohanga District Council will be cracking down on broken glass after concerns were raised at an Otorohanga Community Board meeting on Monday evening.
Board members expressed concern at the amount of broken glass on footpaths and roads in the Otorohanga area.
In particular, they noted the area around Otorohanga Domain, including Kakamutu Rd and Domain Drive - a popular tourist route for visitors to the Kiwi House.
Mayor Dale Williams said the broken glass in the town shattered visitors' perceptions of Otorohanga.
"We've gone to great lengths to promote that as our 'Kiwi' route for tourists. But that is the first impression visitors get when they get out of their cars," he said.
"We have to lift cleanliness and tidiness to compliment what else is going on in the area."
Board members said they would be looking at ways to resolve the issue, including possibly installing more strategically placed rubbish bins and carrying out regular sweeping of
roads and footpaths.
