Otorohanga Oxidation Ponds |
We provide a waste water service in Otorohanga:
to collect, treat and dispose of wastewater to provide protection to the communities health with minimum effects on the environment.
|
How this Service is Provided:
The system comprises of around 31 kilometres of pipelines, 12 pump stations and an oxidation pond system. A 3-hectare wetland was commissioned in 2000 to further "polish" the effluent before it discharges via a two kilometre long pipeline to the Mangaorongo Stream at Kio Kio Station Road.
Properties connect to Councils reticulation (generally) at their boundary, and connections are available to almost the entire Otorohanga Community. (Rural properties and the communities of Kawhia and Aotea have individual on-site disposal systems.) At present 96% of properties within Otorohanga are connected.
The service is regularly monitored by discharge consent conditions and any failures within the network are responded to within six hours.
Cost:
Residential consumers pay an average of $236 per year. Commercial and industrial users who discharge more than 5m3 per day pay according to the quantity and quality of their discharge.
