Otorohanga District Plan
The District Plan is the Community’s and Council’s main tool for managing land use and subdivision in the District. The plan is there to protect land development and prevent significant adverse effects on the environment. It does this by placing controls in certain locations or on certain activities. These controls can affect the:
• Distribution/size of subdivision
• Building locations/height/bulk and density use of buildings & land
• Noise levels
• Loss of significant vegetation
• Loss of significant heritage
• Protection of visual character
• Protection from natural hazards
• Vehicle traffic
The District Plan should anticipate what sort of developments or activities could happen in the future in order to put in place an appropriate management system.
The District Plan review began in July 2006 with information and ideas being gathered through meetings, Open Days and discussions. Council is progressing work on the issues identified through this process.
It is important to Council to have a District Plan Review process that iwi, stakeholders and the community are informed of, and have opportunity to provide input.
