How this service is provided:
Parks and Reserves are provided throughout the district in a number of different ways.
Within the Otorohanga community these include sportsgrounds, such as the Domain where cricket and soccer are played and the Island Reserve which boasts rugby grounds and is also the venue for the annual County Fair. Other Parks and Reserves include Windsor Park (childrens playground), Reg Brett Reserve (skateboard facility), Huiputea Reserve (lake and walkways), World War I Park and World War II Park. Kawhia Community has the Foreshore Reserve which houses a childrens playground, barbeque area, skateboard facilities. The Domain at which rugby and cricket are played, and pony club events are held and the newly developed Omimiti Reserve at the waterfront in the centre of town.
Rural reserves include the Waipapa Reserve located on the shores of Lake Waipapa and Tom French Grove at the ocean beach at Kawhia.
All the Parks and Reserves within the district have public access 24 hours a day seven days a week. Toilets are provided at Waipapa Reserve, Tom French Grove, SH 31 at Te Puti, Aotea Beach and also within the two communities of Kawhia and Otorohanga.
Cost
Urban ratepayers pay, an average of approximately $50.00 per annum towards Parks and Reserves and Public Conveniences, while an average rural property pays approximately $140.00.
