We provide cemeteries:
To provide appropriate cemetery facilities for the people of the District. Provided to comply with the legislation under Section 4 of the Burial and Cremations Act 1964, and to meet the Communities expectation that the Council will provide cemeteries. |
How this service is provided:
Otorohanga Cemetery has an area of 2.001 hectares developed as a cemetery with an additional 1.2666ha to extend into (currently being grazed). Kawhia cemetery has a total area of 4.6089 ha.

Services Provided
A.
- Standard lawn, R.S.A. Section, Children’s section, ash berm and ash wall.
- Access and parking area, seating, water taps.

Maintenance of Records / Maintenance Standards
1. To provide administration, record and enquiry services for the burial of deceased persons.
2. Compliance of cemetery management and maintenance with the Burial and Cremation Act 1968, and associated Regulations and Bylaws.
3. To maintain the tranquil and pleasing appearance of the cemeteries, the maintenance standards need to be high. The following are examples of maintenance -
OTOROHANGA CEMETERY
Grass to be mown and to be kept to a height of 25mm (minimum) and 60mm (maximum).
Contractor to carry out – weed eating, tree trimming and spraying where required.
KAWHIA CEMETERY
Grass to be mown and to be kept to a height of 20mm (minimum) and 60mm (maximum).
Weed eat front area planted in trees.
Trim hedges to shape and tidy condition twice yearly.
